Concert BandsConcert BandThis band is designed for freshmen (and upper classmen) that are working on mastering basic musical skills. Techniques, scales, basic music theory, and music history will be discussed. Many styles of band literature will be studied and performed.
Symphonic BandThis band is for intermediate musicians working on achieving a more advanced skill level. All styles of music will be studied and performed with an emphasis on modern and current band literature.
Wind EnsembleThis course is designed for the most advanced instrumental music students. Class size will be smaller and more individualized. Advanced band literature and orchestral transcriptions will be studied and performed. Music theory, history, form, and analysis will be discussed.
Jazz EnsembleSelected students also have the opportunity to perform in a Jazz Band. This band is designed for advanced students wishing to learn the more intricate and challenging music from the great jazz band masters. The band generally includes 8 to 10 brass and saxophone players as well as piano, drum, and guitar players, but is open for all to tryout.
Placement within this band requires an audition and/or director’s approval. The band will perform at the regular band concerts, and may have occasional sectionals before or after school. For more information on Concert attire requirements see the Uniforms page.
Acceptance and PerformancesAcceptance into Concert Band requires junior high/middle school experience or director’s approval. Placement into Symphonic or Wind Ensemble bands may include an audition in addition to director’s approval. All band members will perform several concerts and festivals (as listed below), and may have occasional sectionals before or after school.
NOTE: See the website calendar for upcoming performance dates. Marching Band NoticeMembers of any of the above bands are also eligible to join the marching band. Band camp takes place at the school for two weeks each summer, and practices are held after school throughout marching season. Students must be enrolled in a band class to be eligible for marching band (excluding color guard members - see the guard page). Students who complete two years of marching band may waive a .5 credit of either PE I or PE II. (Attendance requirements must also be met.)
