CVHS Bands Trip Page
Every other year the “Big Reds” Marching Band travels to competition festival at a distant location to demonstrate the quality of the music program at CVHS and to provide the students a chance to see shows from other units outside of the local area. In the past we’ve traveled several times to Hawaii, New York & Florida, so watch this page for more information on the next major band trip!.
On school years that we are not taking a big trip, the marching band will have a weekend trip corresponding with an SMB competition. We often compete in the Grand Rapids area in October and stay overnight in a nearby hotel.

Why are we doing a trip?
Music ensembles in the public schools have had a long history of traveling. Interstate and foreign travel have become an important part of many fine music programs throughout the U.S. Mr Hoey has taken groups to every state in the US except Alaska, throughout Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. Most band programs in Macomb county undertake a major trip every few years, traveling to bowl games and competitions throughout the US and Europe.
Trips can benefit students in many ways. Group travel exposes students to different cultures, new ways of doing things, camaraderie and cooperation. Experiencing places they have read about gives new meaning to school learning. Trips can afford students the opportunity to meet band students from other parts of the country and see and hear their performances. It is also an opportunity to carry the fine reputation of Chippewa Valley schools to other parts of the country. And trips are a lot of fun! The competitions are exciting, and there will be plenty of time to see the important sights and hit the beach. We all remember our high school days. I can still recall taking trips with the band, the things we saw and the fun we had. This would be an experience our students would always remember.
All trips must also be approved by the CVHS administration and the school board.
