CVHS Bands Trip Page
Every other year the “Big Reds” Marching Band travels to competition festival at a distant location to demonstrate the quality of the music program at CVHS and to provide the students a chance to see shows from other units outside of the local area. In the past we’ve traveled several times to Hawaii & Florida, so watch this page for more information on the next major band trip!.
The CVHS Band program 2012 trip planning has begun!Well here we are again planning another trip. We're still trying to determine exactly where the trip will be and which competition we'll be performing in, but be assured we're planning a great trip that will be memorable for all
Who is going to go? CVHS Marching Band, Concert Bands, Jazz Band, Winter Guard & Drum Line When are we going? Travel is during spring break in 2012. How much will it cost? It will totally depend on where we are going and the events we're able to schedule while on the trip. Costs will include airfare/buses, hotel, meals, entry fees, and all activties. It is not our intention that parents pay the entire amount of the trip out of pocket unless they want to. During the remainder of this school year and the next, we will be holding many fundraisers to help students raise as much of the money as possible. But in order to make this work, we must have a commitment from the parents to be financially responsible for the amount of the trip. We can't have students dropping out of the trip at the last moment due to lack of funds. This would seriously hinder our abillity to compete, and could effect the price of the trip for everyone else. Why are we doing a trip? Music ensembles in the public schools have had a long history of traveling. Interstate and foreign travel have become an important part of many fine music programs throughout the U.S. Mr Hoey has taken groups to every state in the US except Alaska, throughout Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. Most band programs in Macomb county undertake a major trip every few years, traveling to bowl games and competitions throughout the US and Europe. Our band traveled to Hawaii in the spring of 2000, 2004, 2008 and Forida in 2002, 2006 & 2010. Trips can benefit students in many ways. Group travel exposes students to different cultures, new ways of doing things, camaraderie and cooperation. Experiencing places they have read about gives new meaning to school learning. Trips can afford students the opportunity to meet band students from other parts of the country and see and hear their performances. It is also an opportunity to carry the fine reputation of Chippewa Valley schools to other parts of the country. And trips are a lot of fun! The competitions are exciting, and there will be plenty of time to see the important sights and hit the beach. We all remember our high school days. I can still recall taking trips with the band, the things we saw and the fun we had. This would be an experience our students would always remember. The trip would include competitions for the concert bands, jazz band, winter guard, drumline and marching band. All trips must also be approved by the CVHS administration and the school board. |
2010 Florida Trip was a Success!Sunday night as we dropped off a very tired set of students, chaperones & families, the main discussion was to get home and finally into our own beds, but underneath that sentiment was a heartfelt desire for it to continue on further. Can't we just have a few more days at the beach? or at Disney? or take another trip to Cirque Du Soleil, or the House of Blues?
A very sincere thank you to all the people involved in making this trip such a wonderful success. The next time you see Mary Lach, Lisa Kutskill, Kimm Cope, Kim Starr, Cindy Ozment, Rose Sanderson, Gary Sanderson, John Nowak, Brad Garrett, Mike Robinson or Mr Hoey let them know that their efforts were appreciated. Do the same for all the other parents on the trip and don't forget those that stayed home and worked hard to allow us to go, they also deserve a thank you! Lastly thanks go to all the students that pitched in numerous times to help make the trip a success! We couldn't do it without a great set of students and you guys were the best! Besides being in a parade at Disney World's Hollywood Studios and competitions, there were many great activities planned for the Band and Color Guard trip to Florida in April 2010. Activities included Disney World Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, three days at Disney World's Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios, day at the beach along the Gulf of Mexico, Show Queen Dinner Cruise along the Gulf of Mexico, Kennedy Space Center, Cirque Du Soleil, dining at Rain Forest Cafe, House of Blues, and Planet Hollywood.
