Marching BandThe Chippewa Valley “Big Reds” Marching Band has a rich history of competing regularly with the best High School Marching Bands in the State of Michigan. The group performs in many parades, football game half-time shows, and marching band competitions each year both locally and across the nation. Practices for the Marching band are intense but the rewards and memories are substantial and last a life-time. Last year the band regularly placed in the top group for the competitions they participated in. NOTE: Students that complete two years of marching band may waive a .5 credit of either PE I or PE II. See the Guidance Department for more information. |
Marching Band 2011-2012 Season - Band Camp
This years band camp is August 1-5 & August 8-12 from 8am until 4pm at the 9th Grade Center band room. It is mandatory that all marching band students and color guard students attend every day (both weeks).
Band camp is where students learn the drill for the seasons show. Like a chain with a weak link, the whole band suffers when one student is out of step. The Band Boosters provide lunch for the students every day and water and snacks at breaks.
Students do not need to wear a uniform during band camp, but are expected to dress in school appropriate summer clothing: shorts, a short sleeve top, socks and sturdy shoes. Flipflops, sandals, and backless shoes are not allowed as they can be hazardous when marching. Students should wear a hat and bring plenty of sunscreen as they spend most of each day outside.
Though they are provided water at break times, students are encouraged to bring water bottles which can be refilled during breaks.
The fee for band camp this year is $135 per student (for familes with multiple students, see the payment form for more details) and covers the cost of the two weeks of band camp including instructors, building usage fees, and food. Special Note to Parents
We know you already do so much for the band, but remember each time the marching band performs it takes a number of parents to help with the logistics, planning, and coordination to make it work. It’s all to benefit the band and is required to make everything to run smoothly. Consider supporting your kids by offering your assistance. We’re always in need helping with uniforms, moving equipment, planning or serving meals, and chaperoning. Please contact any of the band staff or boosters to offer your help. It’s greatly appreciated!
PEP BandLast year the CVHS Athletic Department asked the marching band students to attend away football games in order to show student spirit and support for the team. This year we’ve been asked back again! This band is formed from marching band members and organized each week of those that can attend the away game (PEP BAND IS VOLUNTARY, NOT MANDATORY). Band parents are asked to help provide transportation for the kids and have nearly as much fun as the students do each week.
The more we get to go, the better the group sounds and the more fun we all have! | PEP Band ScheduleThe 2011 PEP Band schedule is:
Aug 25th - Dearborn Sept 9th - Dakota Sept 23rd - Romeo Sept 30th - Utica Oct 21st - Roseville Note that these dates are subject to change and dependant on being "invited" to perform. |
