CVHS Bands Trip Page
Every other year the “Big Reds” Marching Band travels to competition festival at a distant location to demonstrate the quality of the music program at CVHS and to provide the students a chance to see shows from other units outside of the local area. In the past we’ve traveled several times to Hawaii & Florida, so watch this page for more information on the next major band trip!.

A note from Mr Hoey on Trip insurance:
Parents,
The district would only cancel the trip if there were a safety concern like a travel advisory warning issued for Florida. Travel Advisories are issued for third world countries all the time, but very rarely for destinations in the US. After the 9/11 attack the district briefly canceled the 2002 band trip to Florida, but a few months later re-instated it after the advisory was lifted. The first priority of our district is the safety of our children. The district recommends travel insurance to prevent against financial loss in the unlikely event that the trip is cancelled or circumstances arose that prevented you personally from traveling. In that event the boosters would work hard on your behalf to return as much money to you as possible, but at this late date a 100% refund is unlikely. As Lisa and Kimm stated, the district would not be responsible for lost funds and the boosters would only be liable for the portion of the trip that had not been already paid out on behalf of the trip. All traveling student/guests must either purchase trip insurance or sign the form indicating you were made aware of the district policy regarding student travel and the availability of trip insurance and chose not to purchase it.
The choice of whether or not to purchase trip insurance is a personal one. It is extremely unlikely that the district would cancel our trip, but it remains a possibility. We need to submit the forms to the district by the end of the month so please take a minute to address this issue.
Thanks,
Tim Hoey

The CVHS Band program 2012 trip! It's 2012 and time for another great trip that will be memorable for all:
Who is going to go? CVHS Marching Band, Concert Bands, Jazz Band, Winter Guard & Drum Line When are we going? Travel is during spring break in 2012. We are leaving on Monday morning, April 2 and returning Sunday evening, April 8 (Easter). Where are we going? Orlando Florida. While there we will be going to Universal Studios, Sea World, Aquatica, Blue Man Group, a Dinner Cruise, and a beach along the Gulf. Band students will perform at Universal Studios and Sea World. How much will it cost? Students cost is $950, there is a sibling discount for band students. Guests depends on number in room. $950 quad, $1000 triple, $1050 double. Cost includes airfare/buses, hotel, meals, entry fees, and all activties. It is not our intention that parents pay the entire amount of the trip out of pocket unless they want to. During the remainder of this school year and the next, we will be holding many fundraisers to help students raise as much of the money as possible. But in order to make this work, we must have a commitment from the parents to be financially responsible for the amount of the trip. We can't have students dropping out of the trip at the last moment due to lack of funds. This would seriously hinder our abillity to compete, and could effect the price of the trip for everyone else. Why are we doing a trip? Music ensembles in the public schools have had a long history of traveling. Interstate and foreign travel have become an important part of many fine music programs throughout the U.S. Mr Hoey has taken groups to every state in the US except Alaska, throughout Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. Most band programs in Macomb county undertake a major trip every few years, traveling to bowl games and competitions throughout the US and Europe. Our band traveled to Hawaii in the spring of 2000, 2004, 2008 and Forida in 2002, 2006 & 2010. Trips can benefit students in many ways. Group travel exposes students to different cultures, new ways of doing things, camaraderie and cooperation. Experiencing places they have read about gives new meaning to school learning. Trips can afford students the opportunity to meet band students from other parts of the country and see and hear their performances. It is also an opportunity to carry the fine reputation of Chippewa Valley schools to other parts of the country. And trips are a lot of fun! The competitions are exciting, and there will be plenty of time to see the important sights and hit the beach. We all remember our high school days. I can still recall taking trips with the band, the things we saw and the fun we had. This would be an experience our students would always remember. The trip would include competitions for the concert bands, jazz band, winter guard, drumline and marching band. All trips must also be approved by the CVHS administration and the school board. | Click Here for recent emailed information on the trrip.
